How many times have you scrolled past an Instagram post claiming, “I work just 2 hours a day from my beach house in Bali!” Meanwhile, you’re up at 11 PM, drowning in client work while your kids are asleep, wondering where you went wrong.
I’m here to spill the tea on what time freedom actually looks like when you’re building a business—especially as a mom entrepreneur. Spoiler alert: It’s not what most so-called “coaches” would have you believe!
Before we talk about solutions, let’s break down the biggest time freedom myths that keep women trapped in the hustle cycle:
✔ The 9-5 Escape Fantasy: Quitting your job doesn’t automatically give you time freedom. Sometimes, it just gives you a 24/7 job instead!
✔ The Boss Babe Illusion: Being your own boss sounds great, but often it means working more hours, not fewer.
✔ The Hours-for-Dollars Trap: Service-based businesses can feel like just another way to trade your time for money—except now you’re also buried in admin work.
✔ The “Someday” Syndrome: You work like crazy now so you can relax later… but without intentional planning, later never actually comes.
Let’s get one thing clear: Time freedom isn’t about sipping margaritas on a Tuesday while your business magically runs itself (at least not in the beginning!). It’s about designing a business that respects YOUR boundaries and priorities.
For me, time freedom means:
✔ Working a couple of focused hours daily
✔ Having a business that won’t collapse if my child gets sick
✔ Creating systems that can run without my constant attention
✔ Having the choice to work at night or binge my favourite shows
That’s the real goal—not escaping work altogether, but making sure your work fits into your life, not the other way around.
One of my biggest “aha” moments was realizing that being busy is not the same as being productive. Here’s how you can figure out where your time is actually going:
These time-tracking tools have been absolute game-changers:
🕒 Toggl – Super beginner-friendly and perfect for tracking client projects with a simple start/stop button.
🕒 Motion – My lifesaver! It syncs all my calendars and automates my scheduling. No more Sunday planning sessions. (Want a 14-day free trial instead of the standard 7? Email me Hello@TheAbundantBrunette.com )
🕒 Timing App – Automatically tracks everything you do on your computer and phone. Prepare to be shocked at where your time actually goes.
Be brutally honest with yourself. Are you:
❌ Tweaking your logo for the 10th time (when nobody but you cares)?
❌ Perfecting your website copy again instead of launching?
❌ Scrolling Instagram under the excuse of “market research”?
❌ Reorganizing your Notion setup for the 5th time instead of actually serving clients?
We’ve all been there! The key is catching yourself in these patterns and shifting to high-impact work instead.
Time freedom isn’t about working harder—it’s about working smarter through systems and automation. Ask yourself:
✔ What tasks do I repeat over and over that could be templated?
✔ What decisions could I make once and turn into a standard process?
✔ What tools could help automate my most time-consuming tasks?
For me, Motion saves hours every week by handling my scheduling, not only you can create projects within Motion, create tasks within it and make it into an SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) which is a fancy way of saying you can make a template and use it over and over again! What tools could do the same for you?
Listen up, mama! If you don’t set boundaries early, you’ll create a business that runs you instead of the other way around.
My non-negotiable boundaries:
❌ No work when my kids get home from school
❌ Phone away during family dinner
❌ Option (not obligation) to work evenings
❌ No client calls on Fridays
What boundaries would create space for what actually matters to you?
The ultimate time freedom comes when you stop selling your time and start building income streams that don’t require your constant presence.
My journey:
→ Started with 1:1 coaching (100% time-dependent)
→ Moved to VA services (still trading hours for dollars)
→ Now building community-based businesses through the Skool platform (more upfront work, but ongoing passive income!)
Other ways to build passive income:
Which of these could work for your business?
Time freedom isn’t just about working less or making more money—it’s about creating a business that works for you, not the other way around.
I want you to really think about what genuine time freedom looks like for you:
Define what time freedom means to you, then build your business accordingly.
